Ta Da!! (I feel like I should attach some fanfare music):
Here's the story of my scrap space. The bottom cabinet and granite were already installed in the MPR (Multi-Purpose Room) when we bought the house. Above was just a big blank wall that my husband wanted to put a big flat screen TV on. I rearranged the room to fit the TV above the fireplace and voila space for my scrap room emerged. The lower cabinet is 10 feet long - a scrapbookers dream! Gene and his crew did an amazing job matching both the wood and the stain of the lower cabinet, it looks like it was originally designed as one piece. The very top glass cabinets hold acid-free memorabilia boxes that I purchased through Exposures. I even have room for a few more!
And.. yes, I'm a stander, that's why you don't see any chair. I'm at my most creative when I'm standing and moving around.
Left Big Cabinet - This one my main home for my embellishments. I use Scrap-O-Nizers in 8.5x11 to hold the medium sized embellishments and a discontinued item call the Belli Tray to hold the tiny embellishments. My flowers get an entire drawer in the Sterilite container as do my favorite paper lines (Pink Paislee and Basic Grey - for now). I also have drawers for cardstock - white, brown and black. You may be wondering where all my colored cardstock went... I donated it! I had over 8 inches of colored cardstock that I never used so I decided to try an experiment and see if I REALLY needed color cardstock. So far.... no. I'll keep you posted.
At the very top (which requires a step stool) I put three dimensional products that will someday make mini books or gifts. And right below are my big, bulky rubber stamps. My husband thinks I own too many of them :).
Sorting and Storing by Color - Here's a close up of my "orange" Scraponizer container. These 8.5x1 Scraponizers are great because they are lightweight and clear. I don't use the middle inserts that can be purchased since it limits the size of what can be stored. I like these because I can easily see what is in it just by a quick glance. 12x12 items I store on the diagonal.
Sorting/Storing by Color - the Minis - Here is one of my Belli Trays (I have six). It holds all of my tiny yellow and orange embellishments. I wish the Belli Tray still existed, I think it is one of the BEST organizing products ever made. You'll notice that the items are sorted by shades of color. Not only is it pretty to look and but everything is still easy to spot.
Right Big Cabinet - This cabinet holds mostly kits, kits and more kits. I love kits, they take the guess work out of finding coordinating paper and embellishments. I do have one drawer for holiday themes (and a few scraponizers to hold holiday embellishements). I've decided that I'm not spending any more money on holiday themes unless I'm going to use it RIGHT AWAY. There will always be super cute paper and embellishments next year - right?
Four Work Drawers - The drawers below are all at the perfect height and hold so much stuff. Since they are easily accessible I wanted to put my most used products in these drawers. I've given myself permission to rearrange these as neccesary so nothing in this section is written in stone just yet. I'm already thinking I need to move my flower collection to Drawer #1.
Drawer Contents (L-R):
Drawer #1 - Holds stamps (acrylic and most faves), mini alphas and bling.
Drawer #2 - Holds adhesive, scissors and most used tools.
Drawer #3 - Holds messy stuff like inks, alcohol inks and their tools.
Drawer #4 - Holds punches and decorative scissors.
Bottom Cabinet (Left) - This cabinet holds family games AND my alphabet stickers. I have them sorted by color as well. I had one extra drawer so I gave Basic Grey alphas their own space (since I like them so much).
Over the Counter Area - What am I to do with this section? This area is still a WIP (work-in-progress). The lower shelves hold my glimmer mists and paints (polka dot containers) and I like the shelf with my scrapbook books but not sure about the rest. Stay tuned on this area.
So there you have it, my scrap space version 1.0. I have a tendency to rearrange things after awhile so I'm sure this area will evolve over time. I'll post some updates as I use them space and work through my organizing process.
