Attended by over 1,000 teams in San Dimas, CA! For this race you need a "buddy" to share running, biking and obstacles. The grand finale of the race is crawling through a mud pit to the finish line. There are teams dressed in costumes, a beer garden, booths and the "Mini Muddy Buddy" (but I'll get to that in a minute).
Kevin went with three other friends. His buddy was Ken Robinson. They placed 5th in their division - this is the first time either had done this race. John & Bill not only won their division but also turned in the best time of the day.
After the big boys raced it was time for the "Mini Muddy Buddy". Kids from 1-12 ran a small obstacle course and then crawled through the mud pit to the finish line. The race officials spaced it out by age - youngest to oldest. Delaney being the youngest (6) she went first. She was excited and couldn't wait to go through the mud pit. She never quite figured out that running through mud makes you sink. She also was going over the flags instead of under - so cute!
Collin, Cole, Nicholas (all 8) were ready at the start. Collin did great - until the mud. He stopped dead in his tracks. The look on his face was priceless. After a split second he took the plunge into the pit. He too started by trying to run through the mud (less messy) but after his feet sank into the mud he started to crawl. He made it out of the pit covered in mud.
All five kids made it through. They declared at the end, "Let's go again!" They all definitely want to do it again next year! They also couldn't wait to get the mud off. As they stood there and the mud dried they started having trouble moving.
These are Delaney and Collin's feet. The shoes came clean. The socks were thrown away. So much mud - so little feet!
Note for next year - wear old socks. Delaney's shirt was also retired to the rag pile. All for a good day of mud crawling!
